Cumberland Fellowship was born of the faith and determination of its founding core members in 1996.  In late July of ‘96, Hank Jones, our founding pastor, and his small congregation began fellowship meetings and planning sessions to pray and develop the work that would become Cumberland Fellowship’s mission.  The first meetings of Cumberland Fellowship were held in its new building at 1640 West Avenue; a structure that had once been an auto repair and paint shop, complete with three garage bays and a paint booth.  The bays were transformed into the church’s sanctuary, the paint booth became the nursery, and the old front office served as the children’s Sunday worship. Cumberland Fellowship was open to the public for its first Sunday service on October 13, 1996.  The service was happily attended by 136 people, seated in lawn furniture and borrowed chairs.  The mission had begun.

In October 1997, in time for its first anniversary, Cumberland Fellowship was constituted as a full church, rather than just the ‘mission’ status it had since its inception (CF began as a new church plant sponsored by Meridian Baptist Church and the TN Baptist Convention).  Also on that first anniversary, the church broke ground for a new sanctuary, which was completed in just 40 working days.  In January of 1998, church members attended their first services in the new 5,000 square foot sanctuary.

In 2002 an additional two acres of property were purchased to make room for a new teen/youth center with a complete worship facility.  The ATTIC was dedicated in March 2003.  In the first month three teenagers came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

God continued to bless CF with growth, so we built the sanctuary we are currently in now in 2011. The ATTIC also had an additional building constructed in 2014. In 2017 Pastor Hank Jones retired and Pastor Sam Tollett transitioned from the Youth Pastor to the new Lead Pastor. The Lord has done a lot of things through CF since 1996 and we are always excited about growth and continuing the mission!
